Tell us a little about yourself ?
We were raised in Corona, Queens N.Y. Our father and cousin raced pigeons in the Maspeth Club in 1954. I got interested in the birds when I was 16 years old. My brother and I now fly at his house in East Meadow, Long Island.

Do you think your position is a good one as far as combine races are concerned ?
Yes, in combine races we fly very well.

Do you have a original family of pigeons ? And what type of birds do you now fly ?
No, we originally had Bricoux's and Hyskin's. We fadded out all the Bricoux and we only have two pair of Hyskin's left. We currently have William Geerts imports and some Janssen's.

Can you give us a little history on your champion bird ?
We purchased all of our Geerts imports from the late Joe Gydosh from Norristown, Pennsylvania. Joe purchased them in 1989 from Mr. W. Geerts. They were 1987 imports.

How many birds do you race each year ?
We race about 60 birds in young bird races, and 30 in old bird races.

Do you race imports ?
We race the youngsters from the imports.

Do you fly to the perch ?
We fly our young to the perch. Our hens and cocks are separated.

Describe your loft ?
Our loft is 24 feet long and 8 feet wide. It has four 6 foot sections, 2 for young and 2 for old.

Describe how you feed ?
We feed a light mixture for young birds and add corn for old bird racing.

Do you have any regular training schedule and do you toss regularly ?
Young birds are flown every morning for one hour. Then at 1 p.m. they are taken for a training toss every day Weather Permitting.

Is there any kind of health programs you follow?
We vaccinate for the 3 P's and treat for canker, worms and respiratory.

Do you believe in bird entry limits ?
Our combine has a 20 bird limit per loft. We try to put 15 new birds in per week.

Do you believe in clocking limits ?
No, we do not believe in clocking limits.

How do you select your breeding pairs ?
We change pairs in breeders loft regularly, but if they click we leave them together.

Which birds perform better?
We do very well with hens. They seem to mature faster than cocks.

Have you any advice for new flyers ?
New flyers should see who the top flyers are in their combine and purchase birds from them.

Have you any advice for advanced flyers ?
The old fashion way is out. Today, to stay competitive, you have to medicate and be on top of the game.
